Within the framework of the PIROUETTE Phase 2 project, the Global Art Fusion Workshop was implemented as a five-day artistic and educational activity carried out in all six partner countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Ireland, Germany, and Kosovo.

The workshops brought together young people, youth workers with artistic backgrounds, and experienced artists to explore the connection between local cultural heritage, artistic traditions, and contemporary global challenges. Through creative collaboration and participatory approaches, participants used art as a tool to express ideas, share perspectives, and create meaningful dialogue around important social issues.

The Global Art Fusion Workshop was developed based on the findings of the Assessment Report on Cultural Background and Artistic Traditions in Local Communities, which served as a starting point for exploring different cultural expressions, stories, and artistic practices from each partner country. Participants reflected on their local identities and transformed these inspirations into new artistic creations connected to global themes.

Using inclusive and participatory methods of non-formal education, young people worked together with facilitators and artists to develop their creative ideas, experiment with different artistic forms, and create final artistic outcomes. The process encouraged collaboration, creativity, intercultural learning, and active participation, with particular attention given to involving young people facing fewer opportunities.

Each partner country created a unique artistic piece inspired by its own cultural context, local traditions, and a selected global issue. Through theatre, music, storytelling, dance, visual arts, performance, and multimedia approaches, participants explored how art can become a powerful tool for awareness raising, communication, social reflection, and change.

Six Countries, Six Artistic Expressions

🇧🇦 Bosnia and Herzegovina (LDA Mostar) – “Ćelija / Cell”

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the workshop was implemented in Mostar, resulting in the theatre performance “Ćelija / Cell”, which explores the topics of femicide, domestic violence, the culture of silence, and systemic violence in society.

Developed through personal reflections and oral testimonies of the young creators, the performance consists of three scenes combining documentary theatre, physical theatre, acting in Bosnian and English, and live guitar music.

The performance examines social contradictions, the role of silent observers, and the ways violence can remain hidden within families and communities. Through artistic expression, the young participants created a space for reflection, dialogue, and awareness around one of the most pressing social issues affecting communities today.

🇩🇪 Germany (NGO NEST Berlin) – “Sentenced to Resist”

The German artistic outcome, “Sentenced to Resist”, is a multimodal performance addressing resistance against systemic oppression, racism, xenophobia, colonial legacies, and the loss of voice.

The performance combines live painting, music, sculptures created from recycled materials, and experimental sound installations inspired by experiences of restrictions, borders, and conflict.

Through powerful visual symbols such as chains, keys, birds, mountains, and flowers, the artwork challenges ideas of passive peace and highlights the importance of dignity, resilience, and collective action in creating spaces for change.

🇮🇪 Ireland (Redial Partnership) – “The Children of Lir”

The Irish artistic creation, “The Children of Lir”, is an interdisciplinary contemporary performance exploring displacement, exile, identity, belonging, trauma, and healing.

Inspired by the traditional Irish myth of the Children of Lir, the performance uses the transformation into swans as a metaphor for modern migration experiences and the emotional journey of those facing displacement.

Combining physical theatre, original music, movement inspired by birds and water, handmade textile costumes, and unique masks, the performance reflects stories of migration, memory, adaptation, and the search for belonging.

🇽🇰 Kosovo (Anibar) – “VEIL”

The Kosovo artistic outcome, “VEIL”, is an audio-visual installation focusing on environmental pollution, climate crisis, poverty, and social inequality.

Using video mapping, photography, soundscapes, and materials connected to everyday life, the installation explores how industrial pollution affects communities living near contaminated areas, particularly those with fewer opportunities to move away from harmful environments.

Old household curtains are used as a symbolic “veil” between reality and the way environmental problems are often hidden or normalised. The artwork invites audiences to reflect on environmental responsibility, inequality, and the need for collective action.

🇲🇪 Montenegro (Optimisti) – “The Body as a Question”

The Montenegrin artistic piece, “The Body as a Question”, explores gender inequality, invisible domestic labour, and social expectations placed on women’s bodies.

Through contemporary dance and performance, the participants transformed everyday movements connected to unpaid household work — such as cleaning, repairing, carrying, and caring — into artistic expressions on stage.

Inspired by research on women’s labour and social roles, the performance uses the symbol of the “patch” as a metaphor for both repairing systems and revealing the places where inequalities remain hidden.

🇷🇸 Serbia (Magnet Association) – “Kolo u amanet / In Circle We Gather”

The Serbian artistic creation, “Kolo u amanet / In Circle We Gather”, is a participatory multimedia performance exploring rural communities, active participation, mutual support, and belonging.

Inspired by informal gatherings and celebrations in rural communities, the performance highlights the importance of shared traditions and social connections as sources of support and collective wellbeing.

Combining elements of traditional dance, electronic music, food sharing, storytelling, photography, games, and interactive activities, the performance breaks the barrier between performers and audiences, transforming everyone involved into co-creators of a shared experience.

Art as a Tool for Connection and Social Change

The Global Art Fusion Workshops created six unique artistic outcomes that reflect the diversity of local cultures while addressing shared global challenges. Although each creation emerged from a different community and cultural background, all artistic pieces demonstrate the same message: art has the power to connect people, amplify voices, and inspire meaningful change.

Through creativity, collaboration, and intercultural exchange, young people across six countries showed how artistic expression can become a bridge between communities and a powerful tool for dialogue, inclusion, and active citizenship.

The Global Art Fusion Workshop represents the spirit of the PIROUETTE Phase 2 project — bringing together cultures, ideas, and people through the transformative power of art.
