About Us

PIROUETTE Pirouette is a 24-month Capacity Building project that aims to promote the use of street performing arts — such as circus, street dance, and street painting — as an innovative non-formal education (NFE) methodology to foster social and civic engagement among young people and to promote community-led urban regeneration in disadvantaged areas of Germany, Albania, Italy, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Pirouette project emerged from an analysis of the living conditions of young people and their civic engagement through street performing arts within the national contexts of the four partner countries.

The project idea stems from the recognition of young people’s social and civic engagement as a driving force for community development. The research supports a participatory approach to identifying culture as a tool for civic engagement, as well as the creation and sharing of cultural projects aimed at strengthening social belonging and community participation.
